JG Craig Shield

Each season, the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) runs the J.G. Craig Shield competition for Under 15 cricketers. It is recognised as the premier U15 cricket competition in Victoria and is played on the professionally prepared turf wickets of the 32 VSDCA clubs in January each year.

To be eligible to play in the JG Craig competition, players must be under 15 years of age as of September 1.

Craig Shield @ Oakleigh CC

Historically, we have fielded a team that is a combination of the best current Oakleigh CC U15 players together with juniors from other metropolitan clubs in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne as well as players from rural Victoria.

The Oakleigh JG Craig representative team will be coached by experienced senior players and trials will be held at D.W Nicholl Reserve (Warrawee Park, Warrigal Road, Oakleigh) from October through to December.

The objective of these selection trials is to:

  • Select a competitive squad of 13 to 14 players

  • Provide quality, supportive coaching from appropriately qualified coaches

  • To give players an opportunity to play on quality turf wickets.

Oakleigh's squad will be finalised & announced in December. Please note that players who are selected must ensure they are available for all matches including finals.

We welcome all eligible cricketers to attend our selection trials. They should attend and assess whether their skill levels are comparable to those of other players at the trials, as selection of the final squad will be based on ability.

Trials & Squad Training

Training Attire & Equipment

  • White playing shirt (preferably club shirt) or club training shirt

  • Rubber-soled cricket shoes (spikes if you have them)

  • Hat (club hat or white cricket hat)

  • Drink bottle

  • Cricket equipment (bat, pads, gloves, etc.)

Matches are 40 overs per innings, with games starting at 10:00am and concluding at 4:20pm (with a 40min lunch break scheduled from 12.50pm).

Oakleigh competes in the South Group against Brighton, Caulfield, Ormond, Malvern, Elsternwick and Moorabbin. After six preliminary rounds, the top two teams from the group progress to finals where they play against the top two ranked teams of the North, East and West Groups.

Oakleigh Cricket Club offer excellent training and match day facilities, with the final squad members receiving a team playing cap, shirt and shorts. Players are to provide their own cricket gear, drink bottle and sunscreen. Transport to and from matches will be organised for the players and we are conscious of the disruption to family holidays. Our objective is to give every player in the final squad a "fair go", however, we will not pursue this objective to the detriment of the more talented players.
